Open Top Tram Ride
The entire 60 minute, 11.5 mile tram journey from Starr Gate to Fleetwood, filmed from the top deck of open top Streamliner 706 'Princess Alice' on a fine sunny day. This non-stop journey passes all the points of interest along the prom in Blackpool and through to Fleetwood. See numerous other trams pass by as we work our way north.

It wasn't easy to make this DVD - as you will find out!

How was this DVD made:
We hired 706 'Princess Alice' for two days during early May and filmed the entire tramway twice, from south to north. The best journey (the second one) made it on to this DVD.

With a video camera on a tripod - to ensure a smooth and steady journey - we filmed from dead centre of the top deck, right at the front. The camera carefully follows the line around the various curves and loops with smooth panning to stay on track. 706 was not in passenger service so the tram only stopped at the required road junctions and traffic lights.

One of the problems of filming on the top deck is excessive noise. With the tramway running parallel with a road for most of the route, the noise of traffic can be annoying. To overcome this, we recorded live sound from the lower deck and mixed it together with the live sound from upstairs. The end result is a fantastic soundtrack with the growl of the motors and the rumble of the wheels mixed with the hiss of the trolley and the rush of passing air. The combination is superb!

Our chosen filming days were blessed with fine sunny weather which brought the best out of Blackpool and Fleetwood. From the long sandy beaches and incoming tide through to the cliff tops at Bispham, the green fields of Rossall and the pink blossom in Fleetwood.

The programme is professionally produced with a stereo soundtrack, informative commentary and digital editing. The DVD is commercially pressed with a full interactive menu, scene selection and chapter points.
