Cab Ride: Bristol TM to Castle Donington via Cheltenham, Brosmgrove, Water Orton and Stenson Jct.
This is a cab ride filmed on board a six-car HST set as it makes its way from the Great Western to Scotland. This is one of a number of sets starting a new life north of the border. Having originated at Laira, we pick up the action at Bristol Temple Meads, heading north via Cheltenham, Bromsgrove, up the Lickey towards Birmingham and Landor Street Junction, then to Water Orton, Tamworth and Stenson Junction. Taking the Stenson branch, the train terminates at the freight terminal at Castle Donington, where the HST is to be stored for a few weeks. Highlights of the journey include the massive upgrade work around Bristol, the Lickey electrification and we pass a great variety of passenger and freight trains as we head north. The maximum speed of 125mph is reached on occasions and the 'thrash cam' records engine and track sounds.
At Castle Donington ROG Class 37, 37884 gets involved shunting barrier coaches and finally 43133+43136 are stabled at this rarely-used and never-before-seen freight facility.
Filmed in September 2018, with full permission from the Rail Operations Group, the entire 134 mile journey is featured here including the shunting and all moves at Castle Donington.
