Please Note: The final edit has differed slightly from what was originally advertised. The features on Tees Yard, Blackford and Milford Junction will now be on Big Fright 33. Instead, action from the Doncaster area and Knottingley has been added and the final run time is now a full THREE hours.
Big Freight 32 travels countrywide hunting down the best of the UK Railfreight. Filmed and presented in the longstanding style, you won't see the cameraman's face or have him talking gibberish as the trains pass! This is proper filmmaking; proper old-school - maps, professional camerawork and informative narration - but most of all, we stick to the tried and trusted formula... big locos, big wagons, big flows... nothing but Big Freight!
This edition includes:
S & C Freight: The old Midland route from Carlisle to Settle and onto Hellifield is well known as one of Britain's most scenic railway lines but it also has a number of freight terminals and flows, with a branch to a new railhead at Horton under construction. As of spring 2025, there were regular trains to Arcow Quarry and the virtual quarry at Ribblehead - usually Class 60 hauled - with Freightliner now working to the Gypsum plant at New Biggin. Cement trains continue between Clitheroe and Carlisle, plus engineers and timber trains from Carlisle and with one or two other flows, there's a lot to see. All the freight terminals and flows are featured here, including the run-round moves at Blea Moor - the most remote location in the country to do this - plus stunning aerial footage on a truly wonderful section of railway line.
Final Bitumen Trains: The Haverton Hill - Preston bitumen train ran for the last time in January 2025 and then in two rakes, the ICA wagons were taken away for storage. Hauled by 56049 and 56113 respectively, trains along the 180-year old Preston docks branch and that 1 in 29 gradient ran for the final time. Both trains are featured here with the final wagon move all the way to Eastriggs MOD base in Scotland.
Penmaenmawr Ballast: On 3rd March 2025, 37405 deputised for the usual Class 70, hauling a rake of 22 JNA wagons from Longport to Penmaenmawr Quarry. Later on, 70803 arrived light to haul the loaded train back. Full coverage of the day, with 37405 shunting and loading the train.
Doncaster & Knottingley: A day trip from April 2025 looking at various freight flows with containers at Mexborough, biomass a Haywood Junction and the Doncaster North Chord and 69004 with the sand train at Kirk Sandall followed by engineers, oil, steel and more biomass trains at Knottingley.
Plus: Sutton Park freight variety and 37s hauling JHA hoppers for scrap.
