2018 turned out to be a fairly epic year for the UK freight scene with new locos, new liveries and new flows and Big Freight 20 features many of the year's highlights. Produced in conjunction with Freightmaster, from the humble 50-year old Class 37s, pairs of 56s back on oil trains and pairs of brand new Class 88s on flasks, this programme visits many of the 'hotspots', taking a quality comprehensive look at the locos, wagons and trains.
Peak Forest: Without a doubt, THE freight hotspot of 2018 and with GBRf taking over many of the flows, plus Class 37 and 56 locos preparing the trains, this was probably the most visited and photographed location of the year! An extended feature includes various shunts and moves, arrivals and departures and celebrity locos 66779 in green, 66783 'Biffa' and 66789 in Large Logo plus 37716, 56105 and 56113 and DBC and Freightliner hauled trains.
Arcow Quarry and Ribblehead: Starting in the winter snow, a year-in-the-life of Ribblehead looks at the variety of trains that pass over the viaduct and use the adjacent sidings, plus a visit to the nearby Arcow Quarry, showing a typical day with stone trains departing.
China Clay: The second part of a look at China Clay trains in Cornwall with footage from the freight only Parkandillack and Fowey branches.
South Wales and Margam: Continuing our look at freight trains in South Wales with a visit to Margam Yard and 37025+37099 make it to Fishguard Harbour!
Plus: The astonishing sight of 37219+66850 with a ballast drop on the normal EMU-only Merseyrail, pairs of Class 56s on oil trains to and from Preston, TPE 68019 works a stone train and 37610 returns for Colas in an old/new blue livery!
