Filmed in 1991 by Frank and Michael Tyler we travel from Duran to Alausi with a steam powered charter train and by following the daily mixed train. The flat section to Bucay is followed by the steep mountain section at gradients up to 1:18 zigzagging up the infamous Devil's Nose to Alausi, high in the Andes.

In addition a visit was made to the section between Cuenca and Azogues with another charter train to complete our coverage. Most of these lines are abandoned today so 1991 was one of the last times these scenes could have filmed with steam. Six different steam locomotives are in action with Baldwin 2-6-0s and 2-8-0s.
