Description

We begin by covering Belgium, Luxembourg and The Netherlands, with classic modern traction mixed with older train-types some now consigned to history. We see Belgian classes 20, 23, 26 and AM64 units - all typical of what’s now gone.

Next it is some of the narrow-gauge lines from France, Germany, Switzerland and Austria that are sampled, including steam locomotives and historic electric railcars. We feature class 1099s on the Mariazellerbahn, freight on the Zillertalbahn, narrow-gauge steam in Germany, old railcars on the Berninabahn amidst some superb mountain scenery.

Part three of the programme comes from France as we witness vintage electrics from classes BB16500, BB17000, BB25500 as well as not so new BB7200, BB15000, BB26000 and TGVs. We also cover diesel power with x4400 units and mainline locos in the shape of BB67400 and CC72100 all filmed in various locations across the country.

In the fourth section of the programme we are off to The Czech Republic where a snow scene greets us with class 751 diesels, next it is Poland and various old diesel and electrics at work including Tem2, M62, ST43 and DB class 232. ET41 and ET43 double-locos are also witnessed on coal trains.

Next it is Slovakia where class 124 and 131 electrics are seen and then class 751 on freight around Kosice. Finally it is Slovenia (classes 363 and 661) before we conclude with Austria and sunset sequences on the Westbahn mainline, amongst others.

In part five it is the best of mainline steam in Germany with two Plandampf events from 2010 and 2014 - some stunning sequences with spectacular departures and steep gradient slogs. In section Six it’s back to Germany as we look at heritage electrics and diesels in action from right across the country - such as 103, 110s, 111s, 143s, 151s, 155s and 181s. Also more modern motive power is seen with 101s on passenger and 185s on freight services.

The final section brings you the best shots from Switzerland, with a now withdrawn Ae6/6 on freight as well as current duties with BLS 425s, 460s, Re 4/4s and Re 6/6s, to name but a few, all seen in a range of scenic and industrial locations. We finish the programme with some wonderful shots along the coast in Sicily before concluding the programme with diesel and electrics at work in the mountainous areas in northern Murcia in Spain.
