Description

The third title in the Sunrise Sunset UK series is filmed at the border city of Carlisle on Saturday 15th September 2012. This was no ordinary day as in addition to the regular flow of locos and units, passenger and freight passing through this popular West Coast Main line hotspot, engineering work on the East Coast Main line meant that all East Coast passenger and freight trains which would normally run north of Newcastle were diverted via the Tyne Valley line and through Carlisle station. From the very familiar Pendolinos and Voyagers, came the less familiar East Coast HSTs and Class 91-hauled sets plus a whole host of other freight trains too.

Highlights include: 37688 on an intermodal; 37038 hauling a single tank; 67008 hauling a Class 91 set; thirteen different HSTs; various coal and intermodal trains; 66735 on the Fort William Alcan tanks; 57006+47580 on a railtour; 47826+47786 on a second railtour plus 66847 and 66849 on log trains.

With one cameraman located on Carlisle Station for most of the day, a second was rotating north, south and east of the station, recording some of the more exotic workings on their way in and out of the city.
