
Disc 1 starts at the Cass Scenic Railroad in West Virginia with its fleet of Shay geared locomotives climbing 2000 feet up to Whittaker and Bald Knob.
Nearby is the Durbin & Greenbrier Railroad running for 10 miles along the river with another type of geared locomotive, Heissler No.6.
In eastern Pennsylvania lies the Strasburg Railroad running 2.5 miles through Amish country with Norfolk Western 4-6-0 No. 475.
Over in Colorado the Georgetown Loop is famous for the high trestle that spans the valley as the line loops over itself on the climb to Silver Plume. We see Baldwin 2-8-0 No. 111 in action.
The well known Durango & Silverton Railroad runs from Durango 45 miles to Silverton with K28 and K36 2-8-2 Mikados. We follow service trains and enjoy 2 days of photo charters allowing access to the Animas Canyon, only possible by train.
Disc 2 covers The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. The line runs for 64 miles from Chama to Antonito via the 10,000 feet high Cumbres Pass and through the Toltec Gorge. We experience 4 days of photo charters plus extra material from the 2017 charters. See trains battle steep gradients of up to 1:25 in places. Featuring K27 No. 463 and C18 No. 315.
