The Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, one of the very few complete branch lines in the UK, held several successful events and hauled thousands of passengers, along the picturesque five mile branch line throughout 2023. During the year the railway hosted multiple events including their annual steam gala, an extended visit from LNER A3 No.60103 ‘Flying Scotsman’, vintage train services, photo charters, diesel running days and ‘The Elf Explorer’ returned for another year.

Steam Gala - March 2023: The annual steam event returned during March 2023, extended to run across four days. The 2023 event featured multiple visiting locomotives, bringing together two ‘Jubilee’s’ and three ‘Black Fives’. Visitors were treated to a winter wonderland with sub-zero temperatures, snow and clear blue skies. Footage is included from across all four days, including visiting locomotives LMS 6P No.45690 ‘Leander’, LMS 5MT No.44871 and LMS 5MT No.45407 ‘The Lancashire Fusilier’.

‘Flying Scotsman Festival’ – May 2023:
2023 marked the 100th anniversary of the world famous locomotive, LNER A3 No.60103 ‘Flying Scotsman’. The railway hosted the locomotive for an extended stay throughout May 2023, welcoming over 20,000 visitors to the ‘Flying Scotsman Festival’. Throughout the month, the railway celebrated with running dates, special services and static exhibitions at both Ingrow West and Haworth.

Vintage Train Services – Summer 2023: Running across summer weekends, the railways superb collection of vintage passenger stock was once again utilised, hauled by BR 2F No.52044. With a mixture of passenger stock from the Vintage Carriage Trust and the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Trust, services are seen at various locations between Keighley and Oxenhope.

LMS 5MT No.45212 Photo Charter: The 1st March 2023 saw LMS 5MT No.45212 participate in a 30742 charter, hauling the BLS Craven 50-ton steam crane and a mixed set of stock.

LMS 6P No.45690 ‘Leander’ Photo Charter: Visiting locomotive LMS 6P No.45690 ‘Leander’ participated in a 30742 photo charter on the 6th March 2023, hauling a set of five suburban coaches.

BR 2F No.52044 Photo Charter: Repainted during 2022 to carry a BR black livery, BR 2F No.52044 is seen hauling a short goods during a 30742 photo charter on the 27th March 2023.

Diesel Running Days: Throughout 2023, running days have often utilised traction from the railways diesel department; including Class 20 031, Class 37 075, English Electric D0226 ‘Vulcan’ and ‘Pacer’ Class 144 011.

A wide collection of running days are featured throughout the DVD including lineside shots, an aspect not usually available to the general public.
