The Severn Valley Railway, a 16-mile heritage railway which runs through the picturesque countryside of Shropshire and Worcestershire. Running from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster, via Hampton Loade, Highley, Arley and Bewdley. This product allows you to hop onboard the footplate and travel southbound between Bridgnorth and Kidderminster, featuring resident locomotive GWR 28xx No.2857.
This product has been produced in conjunction with the 2857 Society to raise funds for the overhaul of the locomotive.
GWR 28xx No.2857
2-8-0 No.2857 is a GWR Churchward 2800 Class locomotive, designed for heavy freight work. The locomotive was built in 1918 at GWR’s Swindon Works; a total of 84 locomotives in this class were built, with just 5 surviving into preservation. Purchased by the ‘2857 Society’ in 1974, the locomotive moved to the Severn Valley Railway where it’s been a regular performer ever since.
The locomotive most recently returned to steam in 2011. Following many years of successful running, the locomotive hauled its final passenger service on the 2nd January 2023. Shortly before withdrawal, this product was filmed on the 26th December 2022.

Whilst watching this product, you’re able to follow No.2857 from a series of different angles, including onboard the footplate, smokebox handrails, the front lamp bracket and from the motion gear.
Footage is also included from the lineside, showcasing No.2857 at several different viewpoints along the Severn Valley Railway, filmed over the last 10 years.
There are three viewing options to this product, these include:
Option 1: Sit back and watch the action from the footplate, from several different camera angles including the lineside. You’ll travel southbound from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster. This option includes short titles informing you of key locations and the gradient profile along the route.
Option 2: Similar to the previous option, however this option doesn’t feature the lineside action, titles and gradient profile information.
Option 3: Take in the picturesque scenery as you pass through Shropshire and Worcestershire, this option allows you to watch from the front lamp bracket, unedited for the full trip between Bridgnorth and Kidderminster.
This product features no commentary, allowing you to fully appreciate the sound of the steam locomotive working hard. Short titles are included throughout informing you of key locations and gradients.
