Description

The autumn of 2016 saw Colas Class 56 locomotives used on a Rail Head Treatment Train, running from Shrewsbury to Holyhead and back. Based at Coleham depot, with an overnight path starting with Class 97 haulage, this marathon train ran to Machynlleth, Craven Arms and Bidston before a daytime path all the way to Holyhead.

Filmed from the cab of 56078 with 56087 on the back and a thrash cam recording all the action, this cab ride shows the complete journey from Holyhead to Chester, Crewe and onto Shrewsbury. Filming cab rides in the month of December is not easy (not much daylight) but this was a gorgeous day with brilliant sunshine (too much at times!) and the North Wales coast and autumn colours are shown in all their glory.

Highlights include: crossing the Britannia Bridge, non-stop through Bangor, Conwy Castle and running through Conwy Railway Bridge, the coast on a cold winter's day, various signal boxes and semaphores, The Duke of Lancaster ship plus uncut footage through Chester, Crewe and arrival at Shrewsbury with its traditional signalling.
