Laxey, on the eastern coast of the Isle of Man, is without doubt one of the most picturesque and scenic locations on the Island. One hundred and fifty years ago the village was famed as the home of the most famous metal mine in Britain, the Great Laxey Mine, which produced thousands of tons of lead and zinc ore each year and employed nearly 1000 people.
This album takes the reader on a photographic tour around the village during that one hundred and fifty year period, examining its rich industrial and social heritage through a fascinating series of images, the vast majority of which have not been previously published.
