This cab ride was recorded on 12th July 1993 aboard the 09.25 service from Glasgow Queen Street to Aberdeen, one of ScotRail's 'Express' services over the route of the old North British and Caledonian Railway's line between the two principal Scottish commercial centres. The train ran to time, other than a short hold-up by adverse signals at Cowlairs.
The route taken was the North British Glasgow - Edinburgh line to Greenhill and the Caledonian line from there through Larbert, Stirling and Gleneagles to Perth. From Greenhill to Hilton Junction (just outside Perth) the line is controlled by semaphore signalling. We travelled aboard the prototype unit of the 158 class Express Sprinters, No. 158701.
*Please note there is no formal commentary other than cab conversations which are not always audible above locomotive sounds.
