Join us for this unique journey along the South Wales & Badminton Mainlines with an ex-British Railways, Western Region ‘Castle’ Class Locomotive. Starting from Cardiff, we recreate part of the ‘Captials United Express’ which linked the Welsh and English capital cities. We battle against the atrocious weather conditions as well as the long climb out of the Severn Tunnel to Patchway. After a brief run along the level north of Bristol, we continue along the Badminton Mainline. Also known as the South Wales direct route, this section would become known as the famous ‘racing stretch’ where classic expresses regularly ran at 100 mph near Little Somerford. After this we join the Great Western Mainline at Wootton Bassett as far as Swindon.
With live sound recorded from the locomotive, we bring the action right to you. This program also features on screen titles & locations.
