The ‘Breezer’ name has been familiar with green and blue open-top and indeed closed-top buses running between Bournemouth and Swanage over the last few years. In 2023 the operator Go South Coast (GSC) introduced the ‘Breezer’ brand to other coastal routes for the summer season. You might be familiar with our DVD title “Driving the Breezer” released in 2020 featuring the entire route of the 50 service that travels over the Sandbanks chain ferry. In April 2023 Go South Coast launched the new-look Breezer group of routes at an event in Poole Park on a warm springtime day hoping the weather would stay warm and dry for the season!

The independent transport videos cameras were on hand to record the event. Probably the star of the show was former Yellow Buses, now GSC, 1813 (YBZ 224), a 2002 Volvo B7TL with an East Lancs Vyking body, now permanent open-top in the yellow ‘Beach Breezer’ livery. The ‘Harbour Breezer’ buses sport a blue livery and the ‘Jurassic Breezer’ has a pink scheme on Scania OmniCity buses that are not open-top. All are seen on this DVD programme which has been filmed throughout the 2023 summer season starting in May through to September. Our cameras take rides on five different buses, the first being on board 1812 (YBZ 223), the other former Yellow Buses Volvo B7TL on an 80 Beach Breezer service from Hengistbury Head to Bournemouth Pier and returning to Hengistbury Head from Gervis Place in central Bournemouth. The second ride is on the Harbour Breezer service 60 from Poole to Sandbanks Ferry on board 1822 (HF54 KXU), another Volvo B7TL with an East Lancs Vyking CO78F body. We return to Poole on board 1833 (HF05 GGY), a similar bus that is in the Harbour Breezer blue livery.  The next ride is on a Scania N230ND with an Optare Olympus CO80F body, 1405 (HF09 FVY), on a 70 Beech Breezer service from Poole to Rockley Park returning to Poole on board 1832 (HF05 GGX), a Beach Breezer liveried Volvo B7TL. Look out for two former Yellow Buses Wrights Gemini double-deckers working for Transpora at Hengistbury Head and in Bournemouth!

Filming locations are at Poole bus station, Rockley Park, Swanage, central Bournemouth, Hoburne Holiday Park, Hengistbury Head, Sandbanks, Alum Chime, Weymouth and many more. We also take our cameras to Lulworth Cove to see the Jurassic Breezers in service alongside First Wessex’s Jurassic Coaster liveried buses, which also includes seeing a Plaxton President open-top Volvo cascaded from First South West in Cornwall.  We then move further west to the seaside town of Weymouth where the main operator is First with their Wessex branded buses. This is also the furthest west that the Jurassic Breezer buses operate on their 30 service.

There is a good variety of holiday bus action for you to enjoy on this DVD programme, but don’t forget to catch up with the colourful bus action around Bournemouth in 2023 with our companion DVD “more Colourful Buses Around Bournemouth”.
