Description

The busy rail corridor linking Germany with The Czech Republic and beyond into Slovakia and Hungary, travels through the picturesque Elbe River valley around Usti nad Labem in the north of The Czech Republic. It is a busy area for freight and passenger turns with a big variety of stae and privately-owned motive power - some approaching 50 years old. This programme looks at the rail action on the lines on both sides of the river between 2014 and 2016, and if you haven't been there; then sit back and watch this fascinating programme as it puts you right next to the lines in the thick of the action!

Over the three years of our filming we show views from high above the town of Ústí nad Labem (both day and some night time scenes), along the steep river valley and to the industrial towns some 30 kilometres to the south. A whole host of locomotive and train-types are seen, including classes 121, 122, 123, 130, 150, 151, 162, 163, 183, DB189, 362, 363, 371, 386, 451, 471, 440, 740, 741, 742, 753, 809, 854 and 814. On the passenger side we see International services - both daytime and sleeper stock, Regional loco-hauled, push-pull operated trainsets and Multiple Units on local stopping services. On the freight side there are numerous examples of coal trains, automotive, petrochemical, mixed freight and ballast workings on both sides of the river. This programme offers an historical snap-shot of one of the busiest stretches of railway in the country.
