The biggest mainline steam event since 2014 was held around the German City of Trier for four days between the 28th April and 1st May 2018. This programme looks at the many steam-hauled passenger trains on a series of routes reaching Gerolstein, Bullay, Nennig and Saarbrücken. No less than nine mainline steam locomotives are seen at work in all sorts of locations, from townscapes, stations, to scenic river valley settings.
The programme looks at each of the four days in turn covering trains on all of the main routes. Locomotives featured include: 01 1075 visiting from The Netherlands, 01 202, 03 1010 visiting from Switzerland, 52 1360, 52 8154, 52 8195, CFL5519, 78 468 and 001 150 on a railtour. Preserved modern traction is witnessed on some of the specials too including 103 113 and Maybach-powered diesel V200 033. The programme allows the viewer to savour the sight and sound of German steam at its best with plenty of station starts, clag and steam action sequences!
Locations include Trier station which sees two double-departures, engine movements around Trier Depot, amongst the vineyards along the Mosel and Saar River Valleys, rural locations away from the beaten track, servicing at Gerolstein, the non-electrified line through Bitburg, as well as plenty of action shots out in the splendid German countryside rich in spring colours.
This was yet another superbly organised German mainline Steam event and one to add to any mainline steam DVD collection.
