The 'Taurnbahn' is visited as we look at activity on this popular alpine line. Class 1044 and 1116 dominate the trains to be seen amidst the mountain scenery. The junction at Parndorf on the line from Vienna to Bratislava: using material from 2003 & 2005 we see cl 4020, 1042, 1142, 1014, 10/1116 & 1047 in action.
The Arlberg route on the western side of Austria connects the country with Switzerland and Germany and provides for a wide mix of train types, almost all locomotive hauled over this steeply graded route. We spend a summer’s evening capturing the action just east of Bludenz.
The Zillertalbahn. Narrow-gauge activity south of Jenbach as we study operations in glorious summer weather conditions on the section to Fügen-Hart. What makes this line stand-out from other narrow-gauge lines is the amount of freight still carried, most of it using standard-gauge wagons on special transporter-wagons, we see the current-day operations with loads so heavy that they push their diesels to the very limit. Summer steam-hauled action is also witnessed as well as push-pull diesel operated passenger trains and multiple units.
A view of operations amidst the spectacular mountain scenery as we study the route west of Saalfelden. Witness classes 1044, 1144 and 1116 electrics going about their business on passenger & freight: highlights are the sight of preserved electric 1020.47 on vintage passenger stock & narrow-gauge mineral line.
The Westbahn, including a look at the line under construction, is visited around the steelworks city of Linz. This is the busiest mainline railway in Austria as we feature: classes 1044, 1144, 1142, 1016, 1116, 101, 151, 182 & 2067 on a whole host of passenger and freight workings.
