Description

Material is old and new, some being released previously in European Railway: Issue 42 and 44 and Switzerland Special Edition: 2012. Extra scenes have been added which were not included before.

In part 1 of the programme we’re off to the Zürich area and the main lines to the north and west. First we visit a suburban station on the route to Basel at Turgl and then we travel to the impressive Limmattal marshalling yard just outside of the City. A wide variety of passenger stock is seen as well as plenty of freight activity and of course, those mighty Am6/6 diesel shunting locomotives! At Turgl we witness, Re6/6, Re4/4,450, 460 and 561 classes in action amongst others. At the busy Limmattal marshalling yard we see, classes Re6/6, Re4/4, Ae6/6, Am6/6 and 232 in action on a variety of freight services.

A ride in a train along the snow-covered Matterhorn Götthard Bahn on the stretch of line between Disentis and Andermatt.

A study of traffic on the rural single-track line linking Langenthal with Menznau. We focus on action to the east of Hütwill with class 526 units as well as freight hauled by Re6/6 and Ae6/6 electric freight locomotives.

Lenzburg is featured in this section which is on the line to Aarau. Classes Re4/4, Re6/6, 450, 460, 500, 520, 540, 843, TGV and Ae6/6 are seen at this snow-covered location. Traffic is constant as we see local commuter services, intercity postal and freight services passing this busy location.

Our final part in this programme is an extensive look at the northern slope of the famous Götthard line from Wassen down to the town of Erstfeld. Our scenes were taken long before the opening of the new base tunnel which saw a rapid decline in the amount of trains using the route. Our 2011 and 2012 material features Ae6/6, Re 6/6, Re4/4, Class 185, 182, 189, 460, 500 and 470 classes in action at a range of locations on this steeply graded mountain line.
