Big Freight 12 looks at the UK Freight scene from 2014. Produced in conjunction with Freightmaster the National Railfreight Timetable this programme features the many freight highlights of the year including the introduction to service of the Class 68s, Class 47s on sand trains, pairs of 37s on ballast trains, more Class 60s back in traffic and a Class 50 to Boston!
Class 68 Introduction: After many months of tests and training the DRS-operated Class 68s finally entered service in the summer. See the new locos working the Mossend-Inverness Intermodal and the Crewe-Mountsorrel Ballast trains. Various locos are featured.
Middleton Towers Sand Trains: Two new GBRf freight flows have seen Class 66/7s working sand trains from Middleton Towers to Barnby Dun (near Doncaster) and Goole. See footage of the 66s at Kings Lynn and the freight-only Middleton Towers branch and then from Doncaster, a Class 47/8 takes over the Goole train. Both 47815 & 47843 are featured including the move at Goole itself.
Stenson Freight Branch: A detailed look at the freight-only branch from Stenson Junction to Sheet Stores Junction. With oil, steel, cement, coal, engineers and departmental trains, hauled by Classes 47, 56, 57, 60 and 66 various locations are featured including a superb spring day at Deblenfield bridge.
Plus: Colas Class 37s on a RHTT; 37194 at Daventry, 97303 (37178) on a Cambrian ballast train, pairs of 47s on Doncaster-Drax Gypsum trains, 70805 on a log train, Balfour Beatty Class 20s, plus action from Bishton flyover, ten engineers trains in a row at Acton Bridge and a Class 20 stock move!
