Description

This DVD was re-released in 2020 with extra footage and updates from the last 10 years since the original release, as Seaton now celebrates fifty years since opening in 1970!

This souvenir DVD, narrated by BBC newsreader Nicholas Owen, tells the unique story of how, against all odds, Seaton Tramway became one of the West Country’s best-loved tourist attractions.

Illustrated by previously unseen footage and rare archive material, you will see how the Tramway was developed by bold enterprise and sheer determination. This is not only the story of the tramcars and track, but also of the people who helped to create the successful venture of today, which welcomes about 100,000 visitors each year. The fleet of fourteen tramcars is supported by almost one hundred members of staff and volunteers, some of whom appear on the film, to share their thoughts on many different aspects of the Tramway, as it celebrates forty years of operation at Seaton since its opening in 1970.

Seaton trams run every day throughout the season and give the opportunity to see wildlife, discover Devon’s hidden secrets and find out about the region’s history. You can start your journey at Seaton and travel in a Seaton “time machine” inland to Colyton, one of Devon’s hidden jewels, or start at Colyton and arrive at Seaton, the Gateway to the Jurassic Coast.

This delightful DVD will be enjoyed by tram enthusiasts everywhere.
