Description

A 'Wired for Sound' cab-ride on board on of Network Rail's autumn Rail Head Treatment Trains based at Tonbridge. Operated by GB Railfreight, the train on this occasion was unusually 'top & tailed' by 20901 and a newly re-painted 73119.

This cab-ride is in three parts and the first leg of the journey is filmed on board the Class 73 as it 'jets' the tracks from Tonbridge through Penshurst, Godstone and Merstham to South Croydon. There the train reverses and we then travel on board 20901 as it heads south to Littlehampton. The journey is initially along the Brighton Main Line through Gatwick Airport to Three Bridges. There, we bear right to take the Mid-Sussex route - a line that rarely sees a locomotive, let alone a Class 20!  After Horsham there are some challenging gradients through Billingshurst, Pulborough and Amberley, so the '20' is frequently on full power. At Arundel Junction, we take the short spur into the coastal terminus at Littlehampton.

For the third and final leg of the journey we are back on board the Class 73 as it makes its way eastwards along the coastal route to Brighton, travelling via Angmering, Goring, Worthing and Hove before reaching Preston Park.
