A Pictorial Tribute to Class 37s in South Wales.

South Wales has enjoyed a long association with the Class 37 locomotive. From the early days of double and triple headers hauling lengthy coal trains, right through to passenger trains on the Rhymney branch, the haunting growl of the EE beast could be heard bouncing off the valley walls! To celebrate their years in South Wales this pictorial book looks at 30 years of operations. Starting in the 1970s with the BR corporate blue, original and unrefurbished 37/0s go about their daily business. Into the 1980s and the Railfreight years, the 37/9s and the sectorisation. In the 1990s, the refurbished 37/7s in two tone grey locos with coal and steel branding. Finally, the Rhymney line, the early days with Regional Railways locos, no-heat workings, railtours and the final trains.
