The Imberbus running day is based at Warminster in Wiltshire, bus route 23A runs to the abandoned village of Imber on Salisbury Plain. Imber was taken over by the army in 1943 during the 2nd World War, the villagers were rehoused elsewhere with the promise that they could go back after the war, this never happened and the villagers never went back. Imber now sits in the MOD restricted area with access only a few times a year. Once a year the Imberbus event takes place with the bus service running to Imber and beyond to Gore Cross interchange, buses continuing on to Chitterne, Brazen Bottom and New Zealand Farm Camp. Although the emphasis is on Routemasters, modern buses also take part in order to provide disabled access.
