Produced in conjunction with Freightmaster, No. 24 in the Big Freight series takes the viewer on a countrywide tour, looking at the best of the freight action in the UK in 2020/2021, with new flows, diversions, freight-only lines and just about every class of loco currently in operation!
Snow Trains: Incredible footage from the snow in February 2021 with Class 37s ploughing their way through huge drifts and a short cab ride on a snow plough on the Highland Main line.
Derby Days: Not for the first time, freight flows around Derby are making the news and with four freight-only lines - Sinfin, Stenson, Coalville and Lichfield - all within 20 miles south of Derby, this is a real freight hotspot. At Derby itself, as well as Colas IM working off the RTC, ROG are now using this location as a stabling location for their 37s and 57s and starting from Chaddesden, there are DCR Class 56 and 60 hauled trains. Then, add the regular 60, 66 and 70 hauled oil, stone, cement and engineers trains on the Stenson - Sheet Stores branch - and what more do you need? Footage from a number of visits in spring 2021 includes pretty much everything: 20s, 37s, 56s, 60s, 67s, 70s and 73s plus Big 'T' 37240.
RHTT 2020: Action from the leaf fall season with some of the more exotic trains including 37s, 57s and 66s in Anglia, 56s and 97s working off Shrewsbury, 66s, 67s, 68s and 88s in Scotland and Class 20s from York.
GBRf 60s and 66793: A look at the Biomass trains which run between Liverpool Docks and Drax Power Station, featuring the freight-only section from the docks to Tuebrook. Due to the gradients, loaded trains have a banking engine with either a 60 or 66 on the back, helping the 60 or 66 on the front! A typical day is featured from March 2021 with celebrity 66793 in its retro-Railfreight Construction livery in action.
56 Hauled: A look at two Colas Class 56 hauled trains, with the short flow from Immingham Docks to Scunthorpe and a rare occasion when the Calcium Carbonate tanks to Workington were routed up the Cumbrian coast from Preston.
Plus: Freight action on the Chiltern main line and a typical day on the WCML - with 86s still running - at Rugeley TV, plus a look at the Class 70 hauled flows in Scotland on the HML and diversions.
