Produced in conjunction with Freightmaster, Big Freight 23 includes an action packed two and half hours of freight from around the UK. With Class 37 hauled timber trains in the Far North of Scotland, the first new Anglo-Scottish freight flow in years and a freight-only line built off a freight-only line at the East Midlands container terminal - 2020 turned out to be an interesting year after all!
Far North Timber: They may well be 60-years old this year and after a gap of many years, 2020 saw the return of Class 37s to the Far North line, working timber trains between Georgemas Junction and Inverness! Unusually, WCRC supplied the power for this short-term working, running along arguably one the most scenic lines in the UK. There's full coverage of the operation with the empties heading north, the loading up at Georgemas and the heavy trains running south, all filmed in stunning Scottish scenery. All four of the Class 37/5s that worked are featured.
Gateway West Junction: How often do you have a brand new freight-only line being built off an existing freight-only line? This is what has happened at Castle Donington on the freight-only Stenson branch with new junction built to serve the East Midlands Container Terminal. A typical afternoon is featured.
Crewe and Basford Hall: A detailed look at the freight operations and lines around Crewe and the vast Basford Hall yard. As well as the well-known vantage points, the independent freight lines which pass under the mainlines are featured in detail with superb aerial footage. Everything from 37s to 68s, 70s and 86s are featured, including some rare workings.
Knottingley: Coal trains may well have finished but Biomass is now the major flow to Drax, conveyed in the colourful dedicated IIA wagons. A superb summer's day at Knottingley and Sudforth Lane highlights the flows to the power station, originating from Liverpool, Tyne Dock and Immingham with DB and GBRf Class 66s.
Spalding Class 70: A brand new flow of calcium carbonate, running from Aberdeen to Spalding commenced in May 2020. Our cameras are there for the first train, hauled by 70803.
Plus: Incredibly rare and exclusive footage of 37057 and 37099 on a ballast drop at Southport station; an afternoon at Trowell Junction; 57312 hauls two Class 508s for scrap; new Class 66 liveries and much more.
• All sections are introduced with full commentary and maps.
• Includes aerial footage.
• So much more than just train after train running past the camera!
• This is all brand new footage, filmed in 2019/20. It has never been used before and is not available anywhere else – GUARANTEED.
