In the 1980s British Railways maintained an ageing fleet of DMUs. However, replacements were on the way and by the early 1990s a whole new generation of units had been introduced. This programme explores the new DMU fleet using archive film and footage from around the network, from Scotland to the West Country.

Class 156 - ‘Super Sprinter’ inc archive film and coverage from around the network, including Scotland.
Class 158 - Express units including a test run in 1989, archive film and footage from 2012 including Scotland.
Class 139 - ‘Parry People Movers’ on the Stourbridge Branch.
Class 121 - ‘Bubble Cars’ on the Princes Risborough to Aylesbury branch.
