Description
The Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway was built as a 2' 6" gauge country railway to connect the farming community in the Banwy Valley with the market town of Welshpool. It carried livestock, freight and passengers until eventual closure in 1956. Through the hard work of enthusiasts the railway was saved in the early 60s, the line being reopened throughout, using much of the original equipment.
Today the railway is a major tourist attraction in mid Wales bringing thousands of visitors to the area.
We look at the route, the locomotives and carriages and special events over a period of two years and follow the restoration of 'Joan' a Kerr Stuart 0-6-2 tank locomotive rescued from Antigua.
