After 23 years of compiling these programmes, we are still amazed by some of the workings that continue to materialise on the national rail network. And there were plenty of those during the first six months of this year.

Here’s a small selection of what you can expect to see in Traction programme number 44 – Network Rail’s 31233 soldiers on into 2017 before being withdrawn in the spring, Class 67s start work for Colas on test trains; DRS take delivery of new Class 68 and 88 locomotives following their arrival at Workington Docks; GB Railfreight’s 59003 turns up at Brush Traction’s Loughborough Works; 73967 makes a rare ED appearance at Carlisle; 37602 & 37609 rescue the Daventry-Wentloog Tesco intermodal; the return of the Hamworthy stone traffic; GB Railfreight take over the MoD traffic from DB‚ÄąCargo; Margam steel traffic diverted via Tondu; the last day of Chiltern Railways’ heritage ‘Bubble Cars’; passenger services between Wareham and Swanage resume after 45 years; 88002 working the very first Class 88-hauled passenger train; 67010 hauling the first loco-hauled service train to Weymouth in seven years; Deltic 55009 traverses the Central Wales Line; 37800 towing a Grand Central HST from Bounds Green to Heaton; 47815 taking ‘off lease’ Class 319 units to Long Marston for storage; the return to the main line after 25 years of 50008 Thunderer; 57301 hauling Network Rail’s Class 313 test train; 56303 towing a Loram rail grinder from Derby to the Weardale Railway; 37884 hauling a rake of GWR HST stock from Old Oak Common to Derby; 57310 on hire to GWR for movements of ‘Electrostar’ units to and from Reading depot; DRS-owned 37714 receives retro Trainload Metals livery; 20142 & 20227 in heritage London Transport livery; newly re-painted D8 Penyghent joins D182 and 45133 for  the ‘Three Peaks Challenge’ at the North Norfolk Railway diesel gala; the spectacular Severn Valley Railway diesel gala including Inter City repaint 47828, DRS passenger debutante 88003...and D1062 Western Courier back in BR blue for the first time since 1976.

We hope to have this action packed 100-minute programme released in mid-August.
