Providing a fascinating insight into the rebirth and early developmentof what has become one of the country's leading tourist attractions,this programme tells the story of the Severn Valley Railway usingoriginal personal 8mm cine film of some early members and visitors. Itshows how a group of young enthusiasts had a dream and, against all theodds, made that dream a reality.
Scenes include the last days of BR steam at Hartlebury, Bewdley, FoleyPark and Kidderminster; the special on 19th Sept 1965 featuring 3442The Great Marquess, and 1420 and 4555 which are seen on the main lineand the Severn Valley branch as far north as Alverley sidings; thefirst visit to the derelict line in July 1965 of the newly formedSociety and early scenes at Bridgnorth, Hampton Loade, Highley andBewdley. 3205 is seen at Stourbridge shed and arriving at Bridgnorth.This is followed later by the arrival of 46443, Railcar No 22 in BRgreen livery and, in 1968, 43106. Many of the weekend events arefeatured and unusual movements of locos and stock are also seen.
The DVD contains an informative commentary set to authentic sounds andwonderful theme music. It concludes with events of the weekend of May23rd 1970 which featured the reopening train and first official steampassenger service from Bridgnorth to Hampton Loade.
