Like Online's other titles about London Underground, this recording doesn't have talking heads or boring featureless cab-rides in tunnels.

Using film taken by competent Underground enthusiasts, it shows many lines and stations in the mid-1950s onwards.

It's a riot of red trains, both tube cars and surface line stock.

Starting at Farringdon - esteemed tour train with L44 passes - and Met loco number 16 follows it up to take over at New Cross Gate.

Another steam tour - this time at Edgware Road with L46, L48 is seen on another special.

Moving to Baker Street, a general study of electric trains running from there.

'T' stock appears at several stations, 'O', 'P' and 'F' stock trains are seen passing.

A visit to Neasden features 'E' class, L46, L44 - L53, also the new Pannier tanks.

A trip to Stanmore reveals the practice of including 'standard stock', used as trailers with 1938 tube cars.

At Northwood Hills, steam trains for Marylebone still hurry by, mixed in with new DMU's.

The well known steam to electric changeover is seen once again at Rickmansworth.

Chesham saw its last steam train and 'T' stock appears.

The Aylesbury LT service is briefly featured and the tip workings to Croxley is filmed.

Amongst the red trains at Acton Town can be seen the gleaming aluminium 1956 stock on demonstration runs.

Also at Acton Town, the quaint single car shuttle to South Acton is seen in detail, the red Q23 car contrasting with the new style trains.

Other trains pass on the nearby North London line.

'Standard stock' on the Piccadilly line is next prior to a visit to the East London line, various Underground trains of all types are seen through the damp, gloomy stations and tunnels, back in the 1950s and 60s.

Drayton Park station and depot is seen next - in 1938 tube car days.

The last day of these trains are featured and battery locos haul them away through Finsbury Park and Farringdon.

Oerlikon sets of the LNWR share tracks with jointly-owned tube stock near Harrow and Wealdstone, filmed in the late 1920s.

Finally, a study of trains on the eastern extensions of the Central line in the 1950s.

A steam train hurries away from South Woodford.
