Description

The 1960s saw a steady decline, with through services ending in September 1966. Then the last passenger trains ended three years later. In this volume we chart this decline into the 1980s and then explore the revival of services at three railway centres.

The Programme Comprises:

Services into Marylebone: The station and line to Woodford Halse in the final year of through services.

Steam in the 1960s: Freight traffic with 9Fs, and passenger services featuring a wide range of traction in 1965 and 1966.

Diesels over the Great Central: Diesel Muliple Units, Class 24s and Class 47s during 1966.

Special Trains over the Great Central: Including the last trains of the 5th of September 1966 with the ‘Great Central Railtour’ and service trains.

The Last Passenger Services: From Rugby to Nottingham with the last trains in 1969.

Post Closure Services: Marylebone and its approaches in the 1980s, Quainton Road with steam traction, freight traffic and special trains to Calvert, the last train to Ruddington in 1984 and the Great Central Railway based at Ruddington.

The Revival of Steam: On the Great Central Railway in the 1980s including ‘Butler Henderson’ plus the double tracking of the line in recent years.
