Description
This DVD visits three French preserved lines, all operated by steam power.
The smallest, the 60cm gauge Pithiviers-Toury line, was France's first preserved railway dating to 1966. The second, the standard-gauge CFT Touristique de la Vallee de la Doller, in Alsace, was an SNCF branch line and has operated as a tourist line since 1976. Both of these are seen in May 2003.
The third and largest is the famous Vivarais line in the Rhone valley of southern France. Preserved since 1968, it uses Mallet articulated locos and picturesque Billard autorails on daily services in summer. The line is seen in summer 2000. Each line is seen as an ordinary visitor would, no gala events, no touristy gimmicks, and no 'enthusiast specials'.
This DVD includes the full content of Veterans of the Vivarais, previously issued by Railstuff on VHS.
