Description
The Keighley & Worth Valley Railway celebrated the 40th Anniversary since the making of the movie 'The Railway Children', in order to celebrate the occasion at the railway, a special event was held over the May Bank Holiday weekend and one of the engines that featured in the movie LNER N2 No.1744 returned during the Winter Steam Gala after its recent overhaul on the Great Central Railway.
A wide range of events were held at the railway throughout 2010 including the ever famous Steam Gala's, Vintage train services and Santa Specials.
Winter Steam Gala
The Winter Steam Gala saw an intensive service of freight, local, express and vintage passenger services through the Worth Valley.
The event was joined by LNER N2 No.1744 currently running in its striking LNER apple green livery. Exclusive footage is included from the Thursday before the gala during one of the preparation days which saw LMS 3F No.47279 undertaking shunting duties around the railway.
Autumn Steam Gala.
October 2010 saw the Worth Valley's autumn gala which featured visiting engines BR SMT No.73129 from the Midland Railway which was fresh from an intermediate overhaul, it also featured Haydock Foundry Well Tank 'Bellerophon' currently based on the Foxfield Railway making its first trip back to the KWVR since its recent overhaul. The weekend featured a wide range of combinations including double & triple heading, freight, local, express and passenger services. Exclusive footage is included from the preparation day which featured D0226 'Vulcan' also fresh from overhaul.
The usual Vintage train services ran throughout the summer, which were hauled by Lancashire & Yorkshire 'Ironclad' No.957 one of the key engines from 'The Railway Children' film. The engine now 123 years old was perfectly matched with the railways splendid collection of vintage carriages.
